Promoting a meaningful way of life.

We offer a broad-based activities programme and social events to ensure residents continue to have an active and purposeful social life with activities, recreational therapies and events that are meaningful to each resident (see list below).

While there are regular organised day trips for residents the nursing home will also assist residents to participate in external activities outside of these arrangements, where possible.

  • Newspaper reading/current affairs

  • Trips to the Theatre

  • Frequent trips to local village, hotels, coffee shops and concerts

  • Dementia specific therapies including Sonas, imagination gym, reminiscing and various sensory activities.

  • Themed events such as Ladies Day, Spa Days, "Irish Thanksgiving", Olympic Sport Days and Easter/Halloween/Christmas Parties

  • Ongoing involvement in community life including raising money for various charities

  • Storytelling, poetry and quizzes

Weekly recreational fee

Blackrock Abbey charge a weekly recreational fee.

 

This charge covers the provision of activities including staffing and specialist providers (musicians etc.), toiletries, the cost of religious services, newspapers, and numerous other small-scale services which are not covered by the Fair Deal scheme.
